On 01/04/2023, Association for Legal Education and Transparency LET Station organized a Creative Action which, in a creative way, aimed to remind the authorities of the given pre-election promises to solve the problem of kindergartens in the municipality of Prilep. The action was realized within the project: “Civic engagement for a better future”, which LET Station implements it in the period November 2022 – April 2023.
At the event, activists of LET Station with a creative performance, they promoted the Story of “The City and the Three Kindergartens”, which is actually a short essay in which the problem of insufficient care facilities for preschool children in Prilep is described in a narrative and satirical manner. The main goal of the event is to remind the local government that in the pre-election campaign it was promised to complete the construction of the kindergarten in the Točila neighborhood, to build a new kindergarten in the Kuzman 2 neighborhood, as well as to convert a part of the primary school „Kocho Racin” into a kindergarten and with these three activities were supposed to solve the problem of the lack of childcare facilities for children living in the urban areas of the Municipality of Prilep. The action was visited by about 40 citizens, who pointed out that: “greater participation of the citizens is needed in order to fulfill the pre-election promises and put the new kindergartens into use as soon as possible” – said Ile Grashkoski, a parent. At the same time, Gordana Hristovska said: “the pre-election promises should be fulfilled and the citizens should get what they were promised, in this case three new kindergartens that will affect the quality of the entire preschool educational process for children”.
The creative action was divided into 3 parts: 1. Pasting posters near the locations where the kindergartens were planned with the content: “Wanted”, but the kindergarten is wanted and a reward in bitcoins is offered to all those who will provide information about the non-existent kindergartens ; 2. Signposts have been placed with the inscription – Kindergarten, which show the direction to the unbuilt kindergartens, and which aim to give a false perception that kindergartens exist. Following the road signs, the citizens could get to the very place where they were greeted by billboards with unfulfilled promises, which represent them in a somewhat satirical way the facts and promises made about kindergartens and 3. The story of “The City and the Three Kindergartens” – which was promoted in the space where the unfinished kindergarten still stands, so with the cutting of a red ribbon, confetti and balloons, the kindergarten in Točila neighborhood was “fictitiously” opened.
The purpose of the event was to alert the local, but also the entire public, about the lack of public facilities for childcare, which affects the entire population in Prilep and the surrounding area, but especially citizens from vulnerable categories and families with minimal incomes.
