LET STATION organized educational anti-corruption trainings

In the past period, LET STATION organized two educational trainings on Anti-Corruption in which citizens had the opportunity to gain knowledge related to recognizing and reporting corruption and conflict of interest.

The trainings for recognition and reporting of corruption were held within the project: Legal education for fight against corruption”, implemented by LET STATION and funded by the USAID Civil Engagement Project. The purpose of the trainings were to acquaint the citizens with the term corruption and conflict of interests as occurrences and what is the damage from them, how to regulate corruption and conflict of interest in the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as how to file a complaint to the State Commission for Prevention of corruption. The first training was held on October 29 in h. Kristal Palas, and the second was held on December 9 – International Anti-Corruption Day.

The trainings were attended by 54 participants – citizens of the municipality of Prilep and surrounding rural areas, most of whom were marginalized groups of citizens who encountered corruption but had trouble identifying it, and often did not even know where to turn in such a case.

The trainings were aimed at education for recognizing corruption and conflict of interests and the way of reporting by contributing to a wider opening of the issue of corruption and the importance and responsibility of each of us to take measures to combat it.

Conclusions from the trainings:

  1. Тhe exercise of power, function, public authority, official duty and matters of public interest are public and thus subject to control by the citizens and the institutions of the system.
  2. Corruption should be spoken out loud, because it affects the quality of life of citizens.
  3. Citizens should be encouraged to report to the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption and use the mechanisms of the system to achieve justice.
  4. The fight against corruption has not stopped anywhere, so it will not stop in our country, but we should actively work on finding mechanisms to prevent and combat it, but also to act on the awareness of citizens to report corruption.
  5. Institutional and legal strengthening of both the State Commission for Prevention of Corruption and the citizens for identification and reporting is needed.

In general, the project: Legal education for fight against corruption” is aimed at reducing corruption at the local level, increased education and providing information and legal assistance to citizens, especially from marginalized communities to identify and report cases of corruption and conflict of interest.
